Up for your consideration is this early teens and mid and late twenties Chevrolet rear bearing oil parking and retainer spring .    (Stub shaft
illustrates
Packing and retainer to crankshaft)
This spring (part number 714) holds your felt seal (714) in place between rear bearing block and flywheel. Manual says to cut felt to fill space between crank end and bearing block to keep oil off of flywheel.
